1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet – $16,000
This 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet is a desirable European-market example, finished in timeless Guards Red over a beautifully re-trimmed beige leather interior. Powered by a rebuilt 3.2-liter flat-six paired with a freshly rebuilt Type 915 5-speed manual transaxle, it delivers the classic air-cooled driving experience with a host of recent mechanical and cosmetic updates.
Drivetrain
The 3.2-liter M930/21 flat-six was factory rated at 202 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque. It received a full rebuild in 2010 by Competition Engineering of Lake Isabella, California, and has been further refreshed with new belts, spark plugs and wires, battery, motor mount, fuel filter, cylinder head temperature sensor, and engine compartment insulation pad under previous ownership. The 915 5-speed manual transaxle was reportedly rebuilt in 2019, ensuring crisp, precise shifts. Power is delivered to the rear wheels with the visceral, connected feel that only an air-cooled 911 can provide.
Exterior
Finished from the factory in Guards Red, the car was repainted in 2017 and presents beautifully. European-market headlights and integrated fog lights give the front end a clean, correct look. Additional features include a replacement black soft top with boot, heated power-adjustable side mirrors, rear fender stone guards, US-spec rear bumperettes, and a periscope-style third brake light. The iconic 16-inch Fuchs alloy wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires (205/55 front, 245/50 rear) and backed by four-wheel disc brakes. The seller notes the side window weatherstripping is due for replacement, and a small paint chip and ding are present on the driver’s door.
Interior
The cabin was extensively refreshed under previous ownership, with the seats, door panels, and dashboard top re-trimmed in supple beige leather. Dynamat sound deadening was applied to the floorboards for a quieter, more refined ride. Amenities include power-adjustable front seats, air conditioning, an Alpine head unit, power windows, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The VDO instrument cluster features a central tachometer with a 6,300-rpm redline, a 170-mph speedometer, a quartz clock, and gauges for oil level, oil pressure, oil temperature, and fuel level. The power-operated locks are currently inoperable. The six-digit odometer shows 74,000 miles, with approximately 2,600 miles added under current ownership.
Documentation & History
The sale includes a Porsche Production Specifications Certificate confirming factory colors, optional equipment, and powertrain serial numbers, along with factory literature and spare keys. The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in Texas, California, and Minnesota.
This European-spec Carrera Cabriolet combines open-air thrills, a strong mechanical foundation, and a fresh cosmetic presentation—an excellent choice for the discerning enthusiast or collector.
