1969 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu Sport Coupe – Tuxedo Black over Red, Restored, Big-Block Power
This 1969 Chevelle Malibu Sport Coupe delivers the perfect blend of classic muscle attitude and restored quality. Finished in deep Tuxedo Black with red accent stripes over a fully red interior, the car was comprehensively refurbished in 2015 and has been with the current owner since 2020. With only around 500 miles added during that time, it remains in exceptional condition throughout.
Drivetrain & Chassis
A replacement 396 cubic-inch V8 sits under the twin-domed hood, topped with an aluminum intake manifold and a four-barrel carburetor. Coated Hedman Hedders feed a throaty dual exhaust system. The engine is backed by a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission and a robust 12-bolt rear axle equipped with a Positraction limited-slip differential — a proven setup that puts power down confidently. Power steering and power-assisted front disc brakes (with rear drums) make the car both easy to drive and reassuringly capable when it comes time to stop.
Exterior
Originally delivered in Tuxedo Black (paint code 10), the body was refinished in the same deep black during the 2015 refurbishment, now accented by red stripes. Muscle-era details are everywhere: a blacked-out grille, SS badging, chrome bumpers, hideaway windshield wipers, and that iconic twin-bulge hood. The stance is set off perfectly by 15-inch American Racing Torq Thrust wheels wrapped in redline radial tires.
Interior & Instrumentation
Inside, the factory black vinyl bucket-seat interior (trim code 756) presents beautifully. The tilt steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, an electric clock, and a combination gauge for amperage, oil pressure, temperature, and fuel level. Three supplementary Stewart-Warner gauges are cleanly mounted below the dash. The five-digit odometer reads approximately 46,000 miles, though true mileage is unknown; the minimal use under current ownership speaks to how well the car has been kept.
Production Authenticity
The original Fisher body tag decodes as follows:
Style 13637 – Malibu two-door sport coupe
Body KAN237863 – Kansas City, Missouri assembly plant
Trim 756 – Black vinyl bucket seats
Paint 10 10 – Tuxedo Black
Build Date 02C – Third week of February 1969
This Chevelle is a turn-key example that combines a strong restoration, a potent big-block, and an aggressive color combination. Ready to be driven and shown, it’s a standout piece for any collection.
